Keep the two measurements paired
Bivariate data consist of two measurements for each individual or item. Plot each pair as one point on a scatter diagram; do not separate and reorder the two lists independently.
The explanatory variable is used to explain or predict the response and is normally placed on the horizontal axis. The response variable goes on the vertical axis. In an experiment, the explanatory variable may be the one controlled.
Label both axes and their units. Check the scale before adding a point. A scatter diagram does not join successive observations with lines.
Look for the overall direction, the amount of scatter, any curvature and points that lie well away from the surrounding pattern. Such points are possible outliers, not automatically recording errors.
