Photosynthesis is a two-stage reaction: the light-dependent reaction (LDR) and light-independent reaction (LIR). The LDR occurs on the thylakoid membranes or grana within the chloroplast of a plant cell, and the LIR occurs in the stroma of the chloroplast.
