01Nucleotides

Nucleic acids

This section covers the information-carrying roles of DNA and RNA and their shared nucleotide basis.

DNA and RNA

DNA and RNA are nucleic acids with roles in carrying biological information. Their molecules are assembled from many nucleotide units.

DNA

Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) provides the store of genetic information in living cells.

RNA

Ribonucleic acid (RNA) carries genetic information from DNA to ribosomes.

Ribosomes contain RNA and proteins. At ribosomes, information carried by RNA is used during protein production.
